Acne Vulgaris is most common in young adults ang teenagers. Increased sebum production translates to to greasy skin and blocked pores leading to black and white heads.
Micro-organisms break down sebum causing inflammation and irritation.
Treatment of acne can be by
1. Keratolytics. These are abrasive products which act on the keratin in the skin and open blocked pores preventing micro-organisms inflammation and irritation. Products containing benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid and aluminium oxide ( Brasivol no 1 )
2. Antimicrobials.These reduce the number of micro-organisms on the skin. Products containing benzoyl peroxide, triclosan and tea tree oil. In severe cases the suffer needs to see a GP and get antibiotic such a tetracycline, oxytetracycline taken orally or Dalacin or Zineryl applied directly to the affected ares.
3. Anti-inflammatories. they reduce the redness and inflammation ie nicotinamide.
Wash twice a day wit antibacterial soap and warm water.
Resist pickin spots as this will spread the infection
Apply products to the entire affected area.
