Sore Throat

Most sore throats are caused by viruses and last up to seven days. Common symptoms are soreness, pain on swallowing and hoarseness.
Pastilles soothe the throat by stimulating saliva production. Many lozenges contain antibacterials and antifungal agents. Some contain local anaesthetics to relieve pain.
Children with a high temperature and a sore throat may suggest bacterial infection and should be referred to a GP.
